Keeping a Diary

A diary is a key tool in helping us gather information from your animal's daily life so that together we can track the variations, and recognise and understand your animal's habits and patterns. An animal's behaviour may change subtly in response to slight variations in routine or in direct response to a trigger. Spotting the patterns is hugely beneficial in developing (and tweaking!) effective management strategies as well as tracking your animal's progress!

Benefits of keeping a diary
  • to accurately recall events
  • highlight progress
  • increases your awareness of possible triggers and may help you understand your animal's perspective a little better.

A diary can be started before you start working with us and you may be asked to keep a regular diary by your behaviourist to be submitted as part of your weekly updates.

Key information to consider and track over time
  • eating and drinking
  • toileting
  • their rest and sleep
  • unwanted behaviours
  • playing
  • social interactions
  • any other observations
  • your overall feeling each day

Remember this is only for a short time and it really can be so helpful! Try to include as much information as you can each day - honesty is the best policy!
