For Vets and Animal Professionals

Veterinary Referrals

We are a referral-only practice working in collaboration with the referring vet as they oversee the continued medical care of the animal, keeping all the animal’s information under the same clinical notes, we work as a team of 3 – the behaviourist (DVBP), the referring vet and the client. A veterinary referral is essential to ensure we work as a team to provide practical solutions for the behavioural issues presented. Moreover as the animal will not be examined physically by any of our veterinary behaviourists or clinical animal behaviourists, it allows us to consider the medical history of the animal, where pain or other disease processes may influence behaviour. Follow-up support is vital for a successful treatment outcome, remaining in contact and changing techniques where necessary is crucial.

To refer a client for a behaviour consultation with one of our DVBP clinical animal behaviourists, please complete the Behaviour Referral form (to the right), remembering to attach the animal’s clinical history and any test results or referral reports.

Alternatively, get in touch by email, phone or clicking here if you have any questions.

Please add info@donovanvetbehaviour.com to your safe senders list or check your spam/junk folder in case our response is filtered there in error.

Once referred, we contact the client in regards to proceeding with behaviour treatment. Our behaviour treatment plans are created by our experienced clinical animal behaviourists and are bespoke for each individual patient. In each case, behavioural veterinary support for the clinical animal behaviourist is provided by one of our DVBP veterinary behaviourists.

We also offer online behaviour consultations for professionals (vets, vet nurses, behaviourists, trainers, shelter staff, students, etc.) which are flexible depending on your needs, whether you require:

  • a one-off discussion on a particular behaviour case
  • a monthly catch-up to talk over specific cases
  • a workshop to veterinary or shelter staff to give first aid behaviour advice and to understand your patient’s behaviours in more depth.

Types of behaviour consultations:

  • Online advice/live video consultations.
  • Teaching groups/workshops to enable veterinary and shelter staff to give first aid behaviour advice and understand their patient’s behaviours in more depth.

If you would like to go ahead with a professional consultation please email info@donovanvetbehaviour.com to organise an appointment.

We will request as much case information as you have available including the animal's clinical history and any test results and referral reports where possible. We also request that the owner completes an Owner's Questionnaire.
